Sorting
One of the advantages of conveyor systems is the automatic sorting of material, which streamlines logistics processes and minimizes the error rate. The selection of the right technology depends not only on the type and size of the transported material but primarily on the required sorting capacity and speed. Modern automated sorting systems enable the fast and precise handling of products, thereby contributing to the better organization of warehouse and production operations. Sorting automation significantly increases productivity and reduces human error, which is crucial for the optimization of overall logistics processes. Furthermore, a properly designed sorting system allows for flexibility across various types of materials, which is important for a wide range of applications in intralogistics.

FAQs
Automatic parcel sorting is a process in which a sorting system automatically divides parcels and goods on a conveyor line according to predefined rules, usually based on a barcode, QR code or RFID tag, or alternatively by weight, colour or size. The aim is to direct each parcel to the correct branch or collection lane without manual handling. This speeds up processing, reduces errors and frees employees for more demanding tasks. Sorting usually follows identification, where the parcel is read by a scanning gate and then diverted by the sorting element to the required route.
LOGSYS offers several types of parcel sorters depending on the direction of diversion and the nature of the goods. These include a sorting belt conveyor for smooth diversion of parcels into side branches, a vertical sorter and a pop-up sorter for sorting parcels perpendicular to the direction of flow, as well as diverter arms that guide goods into collection lanes. For lower-capacity operations, we also offer manual sorting using a modular belt. The specific choice depends on the required throughput, dimensions and type of parcels. An overview of the individual elements can be found in the intralogistics products section.
Sorting capacity and speed always depend on the specific design and operating requirements, so they cannot be stated as a single universal value. They are affected by the selected sorter type, required capacity, parcel dimensions and weight, number of output branches and downstream technologies. A continuous belt sorter for small parcels will achieve different values from diverter arms handling bulkier goods. When designing the system, we use real data about your parcel flow and size the solution to handle peak loads while retaining a reserve for future growth.
We design the sorting system to connect with existing conveyors, identification technology and the warehouse control system. First, we map the parcel flow and the points where sorting is required, then design the interface between the new sorting elements and your line. Sorting usually works together with parcel identification, which reads the barcode and passes information to the control system about where the parcel should be diverted.
Automatic product sorting is suitable for operations that process large volumes of parcels or goods every day and where manual sorting causes delays or increases the error rate. Typical examples include distribution centres, e-commerce warehouses, parcel depots, airports and manufacturing operations. It pays off wherever parcels need to be reliably directed to the correct route while maintaining high throughput. Smaller operations can start with manual sorting, for example with support from a modular belt, and expand the system later.
